FYI

IF you take 6 of these (Redheads who have lived in England the past 5 years)

And let them play out in the New Mexican sun

Without thinking about the importance of This:

You get 6 sizzling bacon strips instead of children.

Just a friendly reminder of course. I always remember to lather generous ammounts of sunblock on my children every single day. ALWAYS. This is just to inform other moms with 6 redheaded children, who are unnaturally white from five years of no sun exposure, who just happen to read my blog. You know, just doing my duty as a concerned parent and all.

Erm, and just as a precaution, does anyone know the best way to change crisp bacon back into skin? You know, in case I ever did need to know.

  1. Anything that is aloe vera based. And if it's for yourself then use the St Tropez everyday moisturiser as it settles sunburn and turns you golden overnight. I'm blonde and burn and have patchwork quilt tan lines at the moment

  2. Yes, lots and lots of aloe. I think Neutrogena has a really good spray aloe if I remember right. Not that my kids ever get sunburned, so I wouldn't know. :)

  3. We had this great burn care kit growing up that had an absolutely AMAZING salve for burns...it was some Shaklee purchase or something, I think.
When I turn into crisp bacon...I usually use ocean potion stuff because it numbs and soothes. :)

  5. Yeah, Banana Boat with lidocaine is good. Yikes.

  6. With my pale redheads we use a lot of stuff like Aloe Ice gel or similar products. I would think that the lidocaine stuff would be good too. Stuff like Solarcaine helps for a little while. But I'm sure you don't need any of this info.

  7. Tea bags. I used it on my step daughter :) google tea bags for sunburns and you'll find some directions. It really helped with her pain too.

  10. Ouch, I'm sorry. Other than aloe, keep their skin moisturized really well with lotion. You will probably have lots and lots of peeling which is fun in a disgusting sort of way. When you were in England did people call you family the Weasleys?

  11. I always use an aloe based gel to relieve the burn. My mother and grandmother always said to get in a vinegar bath. Never could actually bring myself to do that. Also...never get into a cold bath or cold shower...get the water as warm/hot as they can stand it and gently ease their body under the water. The heat will actually draw the heat from the burn out. Sounds painful but it works for me.

  12. Aloe, aloe and more aloe then throw on some ice and maybe a cold bath. I burnt myself bad when I was pregnant with first child. I didn't realize your skin was more sensitive. I couldn't walk for days.

  13. LOL! You guys are awesome! I love all this advice! And for a girl who grew up in phoenix--with my fair share of sun, I hadn't even heard of most of these! Already, burns are fading to a healthy pink and kids are smiling! You all rock!

  14. As a fair gal myself, the sun is a great thing, but really, not a best friend of mine (after enduring way too many sunburns growing up). My sister actually got blessings from my brothers & dad over the years from regular horrible sunburns.

Hope your kids recover well. Maybe use sun umbrellas next time? ;)

  15. Ha! Poor babies : ( My kids got my husband's greek skin, so we lucked out there.

Good luck with the whining until the burns fade! I mean, uh, good luck to whatever mom would forget sunscreen, because certainly you wouldn't.
